- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk, vanilla sugar, and orange zest. Stir occasionally until the mixture just begins to boil.
- While the milk heats, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a separate bowl until well combined and slightly lightened in color.
- Mix the cornstarch with a splash of warm milk from the saucepan to create a slurry, then add this back into the egg mixture, whisking until smooth.
- Once the milk is boiling, gradually pour the egg mixture into the saucepan, stirring constantly to prevent curdling.
- Continue cooking for about 2-3 minutes, or until the mixture thickens to a custard-like consistency. Remove from heat.
- Gently fold in your choice of crushed cookies until evenly distributed.
- Pour the mixture into serving bowls or dessert cups. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Before serving, garnish with cocoa powder, cinnamon, or chocolate shavings for an extra touch.
Notes
This dessert can be made a day ahead; just keep it tightly sealed in the fridge. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
