Apple Puff Pastry with Coffee Whipped Cream
Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut it into squares, roughly 10 cm (4 inches) each.
- Prepare the Apples: In a bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon until coated. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembly
- Brush the melted butter over each pastry square. Sprinkle with a small amount of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Lay the spiced apple slices over half of each pastry square, leaving space around the edges. Add some chopped hazelnuts in the center, and sprinkle a bit of sugar over the top.
- Fold the other half of the pastry over to create a pocket and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and milk. Brush this mixture over the top of the pastry for a golden finish.
Baking and Serving
- Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- While the pastries are baking, blend the milk with instant coffee and sugar in a bowl. Add boiling water, then whisk until frothy.
- Allow the pastries to cool slightly before serving. Top with coffee whipped cream and a scoop of ice cream for an indulgent finish.
Notes
Pro Tips: If your dough gets sticky while rolling, refrigerate it for a few minutes before continuing. For extra flavor, you can add a splash of vanilla extract to the coffee whipped cream. Ensure not to overfill the pastries to prevent leaking while baking. Common mistakes to avoid include skipping the egg wash for a beautiful golden crust.
