Easy No-Oven Turkish Bread Recipe
Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, dry yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt to the mixture. Stir until combined, then knead the dough in the bowl or on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth and doesn’t stick to your hands, about 8-10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm area for 40 minutes until it doubles in size.
Cooking
- After resting, punch the dough down and divide it into 10 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and gently stretch it into a disc shape without overworking the dough.
- Heat your skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place one dough disc in the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until it rises and puffs up, becoming golden brown.
- In a separate small bowl, melt the butter. As soon as the bread is cooked, brush each piece liberally with melted butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley, if using.
- Serve warm, and enjoy the delightful flavors!
Notes
Ensure your liquids are warm but not too hot; otherwise, they may kill the yeast. A cast iron skillet works amazingly well for cooking, giving it a lovely char. Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep it longer, consider freezing it.
