Ingredients
- 800g of plain wheat flour
- 200g of whole wheat flour
- 200Â ml of lukewarm milk
- 150Â ml of warm water
- 10 g active dry yeast (or 30 g fresh yeast)
- 3Â eggs
- 100 g of sugar
- 100g of soft butter
- 1Â teaspoon of salt
- 1Â tablespoon of vanilla extract or orange zest (optional)
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast in warm milk with a tablespoon of sugar. Let it rest for 10 minutes until it foams.
- In a bowl, mix flours, sugar, and salt. Add the eggs, activated yeast, warm water, and flavoring.
- Knead for 5 minutes. Gradually incorporate the butter until you obtain a smooth and elastic dough.
- Let it rest for 1 hour in a warm place, covered with a cloth, until it doubles in volume.
- Divide into portions and form braided or ring-shaped doughnuts.
- Place on greased trays and let rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Brush with beaten egg if desired.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
Notes
- The butter should be soft, not melted.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, but sparingly.
- Plant-based milk can be used for a dairy-free version.
