Ingredients
Sloppy Joe Filling
- 1 lb 450 g ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder optional, for heat
Toast & Topping
- 8 slices thick-cut Texas toast
- 2 cups shredded cheddar or Colby-Jack cheese
- Fresh parsley optional, for garnish
Instructions

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper and cook for about 3 minutes until softened.

Add the ground beef and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess grease if needed.

Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika, salt, pepper, and chili powder. Stir well and simmer for 8–10 minutes until thick and saucy.

While the meat simmers, toast the Texas toast in the oven or toaster until golden.

Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over each slice of toast.

Sprinkle cheese on top and place under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until melted and bubbly.

Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.
