Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Cabbage rolls stuffed with meat, rice, and vegetables, topped with homemade tomato sauce. A comforting and easy classic.


Ingredients

 

  • 8 large cabbage leaves
  • 300g of minced beef or chicken
  • 1/2 cup of cooked rice
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove of chopped garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (for the sauce)
  • 1 clove of chopped garlic (for the sauce)
  • Oregano to taste

 


Instructions

  1. Blanch the cabbage leaves in salted water for 3-4 minutes. Cool and dry.
  2. Mix the meat, rice, carrot, onion, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper and egg in a bowl.
  3. Place filling on each sheet, roll up and fold the edges inwards.
  4. For the sauce, sauté the onion and garlic, add the tomato puree and seasonings. Cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Place the rolls in a dish. Cover with the sauce and cook covered for 40 minutes in the oven or a frying pan.
  6. Serve hot, accompanied by bread or fresh salad.

Notes

  • Use savoy cabbage if you want more manageable leaves.
  • You can freeze the rolls before cooking them.
  • Vegetarian option: substitute cooked lentils for meat.
