Slow Cooker Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef
  • 1 small green cabbage chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 1 can 15 oz / 425 g tomato sauce
  • 1 can 14.5 oz / 410 g diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • . Brown the Meat
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onion is soft (about 5 minutes).
  • Add garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Drain excess fat.
  • Add Ingredients to the Slow Cooker
  • Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker.
  • Add:
  • chopped cabbage
  • uncooked rice
  • tomato sauce
  • diced tomatoes
  • beef broth
  • tomato paste
  • brown sugar
  • paprika
  • oregano
  • thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • Stir everything well so the rice and cabbage are evenly distributed.
  • Slow Cook
  • Cover and cook:
  • LOW: 6–7 hours
