Ingredients

Patties

  • 1 lb 450g ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Gravy & Sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 8 oz 225g mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  • Make the Steak Patties
  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently and shape into 4 oval patties.
  • Brown the Patties (Optional but Recommended)
  • Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear patties for 1–2 minutes per side until lightly browned.
  • Transfer patties to the slow cooker.
  • Add Onions & Mushrooms
  • Scatter sliced onions and mushrooms over the patties.
  • Prepare the Gravy
  • In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and Dijon mustard.
  • Pour the mixture over the patties.
  • Slow Cook
  • Cover and cook:
  • LOW: 6–8 hours
  • HIGH: 3–4 hours
  • Thicken the Gravy
  • Mix cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry.
  • Stir it into the slow cooker during the last 20–30 minutes of cooking until thickened.
  • Serve
  • Spoon rich gravy over the Salisbury steaks.
  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
