A homemade recipe for oven-baked gratin potatoes with creamy layers of potato, cream and melted cheeses, perfect as a side dish or main course.
Ingredients
- 1Â kg of potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2Â cloves of garlic, chopped
- 1Â cup of whole milk
- 2Â cups of cooking cream
- 1Â teaspoon of nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup grated cheese (emmental, gruyère or mozzarella)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1Â tablespoon of butter to grease the dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Place a layer of potatoes at the bottom of the dish, overlapping slightly.
- Sprinkle chopped garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg over the potatoes. Add some grated cheese.
- Repeat the process in layers until all the potatoes are used up.
- In a bowl, mix the milk with the cream. Pour over the potatoes until completely covered.
- Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use high starch potatoes such as Monalisa or Yukon Gold.
- For a more intense flavor, add caramelized onion between layers.
- You can prepare the recipe in advance and bake it before serving.
