Ingredients
Salisbury Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef 80–85% lean
- 1/3 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking
Mushroom Gravy
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz mushrooms sliced
- 1/2 small onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently just until combined.
-
Divide the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties and cook 4–5 minutes per side until browned and mostly cooked through. Remove patties to a plate.
-
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add mushrooms and chopped onion. Cook 5–6 minutes until soft and lightly browned.
-
Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds.
-
Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and stir well. Cook 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
-
Slowly whisk in beef broth. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme. Bring to a gentle simmer.
-
Return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer 8–10 minutes until thickened and patties are fully cooked.
-
Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
