Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt

Prepare the pan : Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Combine dry ingredients : In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until well mixed.

Add milk : Slowly pour in the milk while stirring to form a smooth mixture.

Heat the mixture : Place over medium heat. Stir constantly until it begins to boil.

Boil without stirring : Once boiling, stop stirring and allow it to cook for 5 minutes. The mixture should thicken and look glossy.

Add butter and vanilla : Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla but do not stir yet. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

Beat until thick : After resting, beat vigorously with a spoon for 1–2 minutes until the mixture becomes thick and loses its shine.

Pour & smooth :Quickly spread into prepared pan.

Cool & slice : Let cool completely at room temperature (about 1 hour), then cut into squares.
