Ingredients
- 1Â cup of rice
- 1Â liter of whole milk
- 1Â cup of water
- 1Â cinnamon stick
- 1Â piece of lemon or orange peel (without the white part)
- 1Â cup of sugar (adjustable to taste)
- 1Â pinch of salt
- 1Â teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
- Ground cinnamon for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions
- Place the rice, water, cinnamon stick, and peel in a large pot.
- Cook over medium heat until the rice has absorbed almost all the water (about 10 minutes).
- Add the hot milk gradually, stirring constantly.
- Cook over medium-low heat for 25–30 minutes until thickened and the rice is tender.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, and vanilla. Cook for another 5–10 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Serve hot, warm, or cold. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon to taste.
Notes
- You can use plant-based milk for a lactose-free version.
- Short grain rice gives a creamier texture.
- Avoid stopping stirring so it doesn’t stick.
- The recipe can be adjusted for sweetness and aroma.
