Total Time: 20minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces dried chipped beef sliced into thin strips
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  •  teaspoon paprika optional but recommended
  • 4 slices bread toasted
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Place the chipped beef in a bowl, cover with warm water, and let soak for 10 minutes to reduce saltiness. Drain well and gently pat dry.
  • Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly, until lightly golden and smooth.
  • Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to prevent lumps.
  • Continue stirring and let the sauce simmer for 3–4 minutes, until thick and creamy.
  • Add the drained chipped beef, black pepper, and paprika. Stir and simmer for another 2 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed (usually no extra salt is required).
  • Spoon the creamy beef mixture over hot toasted bread.
  • Sprinkle with parsley if desired and serve immediately.
