Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts
  • ½ cup honey
  •  cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • For thickening optional:
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Optional garnish
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions

Instructions

  • Prepare the sauce
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ketchup, vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper until well combined.
  • Add chicken to slow cooker
  • Place the chicken pieces in the bottom of the slow cooker in a single layer.
  • Pour the sauce over the chicken
  • Evenly pour the honey garlic sauce over the chicken so it is well coated.
  • Cook
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
  • Optional: thicken the sauce
  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water. Stir this mixture into the slow cooker during the last 15–20 minutes of cooking and allow the sauce to thicken.
  • Finish and serve
  • Spoon the glossy honey garlic sauce over the chicken. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
