- 2 lb 900 g Yukon Gold potatoes (or russet)
- 1/2 cup 120 ml whole milk
- 1/4 cup 60 g unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup 60 g sour cream (optional but recommended)
- 1 tsp salt plus extra to taste
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder optional
- Fresh parsley optional garnish
Instructions
Prep the potatoes

Wash, peel, and cut potatoes into evenly sized chunks (about 1–2 inches).
Boil

Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water.

Add 1 tsp salt.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender (about 15–20 minutes).
Drain and dry

Drain the potatoes well.

Mash
