Orange Chicken is a classic recipe with a perfect combination of sweet and citrus flavors. It’s easy to prepare and results in a thick, glossy sauce that coats tender pieces of chicken. Ideal for family meals or special dinners.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs (or breasts)
- 2 oranges (juice and zest)
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
- Orange slices for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the chicken
- Clean the thighs or breasts and season them with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Brown the chicken
- In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Brown the chicken on both sides for 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
Step 3: Make the orange sauce
- In the same pan, sauté the garlic (and ginger if using) for 1 minute.
- Add the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and orange zest. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
Step 4: Thicken the sauce
- Add the cornstarch dissolved in water and cook over low heat until thickened.
Step 5: Cook the chicken in the sauce
- Return the chicken to the pan and cover it with the sauce. Cook over low heat for 15-20 minutes.
Step 6: Serve
- Serve hot, garnished with orange slices.
Notes
- You can substitute the honey with brown sugar or maple syrup.
- If the sauce is too thick, add a little water or more orange juice.
- Serve with white rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
