Orange Chicken

Orange Chicken is a classic recipe with a perfect combination of sweet and citrus flavors. It’s easy to prepare and results in a thick, glossy sauce that coats tender pieces of chicken. Ideal for family meals or special dinners.


Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs (or breasts)
  • 2 oranges (juice and zest)
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • Orange slices for garnish (optional)

 


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the chicken

  1. Clean the thighs or breasts and season them with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Brown the chicken

  1. In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Brown the chicken on both sides for 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: Make the orange sauce

  1. In the same pan, sauté the garlic (and ginger if using) for 1 minute.
  2. Add the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and orange zest. Cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Thicken the sauce

  1. Add the cornstarch dissolved in water and cook over low heat until thickened.

Step 5: Cook the chicken in the sauce

  1. Return the chicken to the pan and cover it with the sauce. Cook over low heat for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6: Serve

  1. Serve hot, garnished with orange slices.

Notes

  • You can substitute the honey with brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little water or more orange juice.
  • Serve with white rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
