Homemade White Bread

A soft and fluffy homemade white bread, perfect for sharing with the family. Easy to make with basic ingredients.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup (50 g) of sugar or honey
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 cups (474 ​​ml) of warm water ( 40 – 46 °C)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of vegetable or canola oil
  • 4 to 5 1/2 cups ( 500 – 688 g) of wheat flour

 


Instructions

  1. Mix the warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar or honey. Let it sit until foamy (5-10 min).
  2. Add the remaining sugar or honey, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix well.
  3. Add flour little by little until the dough comes away from the bowl and is smooth.
  4. Knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is elastic.
  5. Form a ball and let it rest in a greased bowl for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  6. Degas the dough, divide it, and shape it into two loaves. Place them in greased molds.
  7. Let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake at 175°C for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Let it cool before cutting.

Notes

  • You can substitute honey with sugar, or vice versa.
  • Bread flour gives a more airy crumb, but all-purpose flour works too.
  • For a crisp crust, spray water in the oven when you put the loaves in.
