A soft and fluffy homemade white bread, perfect for sharing with the family. Easy to make with basic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1Â tablespoon of active dry yeast
- ¼ cup (50 g) of sugar or honey
- 2Â teaspoons of salt
- 2 cups (474 ​​ml) of warm water ( 40 – 46 °C)
- 2Â tablespoons (30 ml) of vegetable or canola oil
- 4Â to 5 1/2 cups (Â 500Â –Â 688Â g) of wheat flour
Instructions
- Mix the warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar or honey. Let it sit until foamy (5-10 min).
- Add the remaining sugar or honey, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix well.
- Add flour little by little until the dough comes away from the bowl and is smooth.
- Knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is elastic.
- Form a ball and let it rest in a greased bowl for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
- Degas the dough, divide it, and shape it into two loaves. Place them in greased molds.
- Let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Bake at 175°C for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.
- Let it cool before cutting.
Notes
- You can substitute honey with sugar, or vice versa.
- Bread flour gives a more airy crumb, but all-purpose flour works too.
- For a crisp crust, spray water in the oven when you put the loaves in.
